Each project begins with a careful assessment of the site or community, taking into account both it’s resources, human and natural, and it’s areas of need. The visual concepts for much of the work is often inspired by world mythology and folk art traditions which are themselves imaginative responses to the resources and spiritual forces of particular landscapes. Through my method of presentation and working processes I try to create a bridge between these traditions and our contemporary concerns. I structure the designs for each community so that they brake down into very tactile, simple art processes that are meaningful at all levels of participation and can be done by individiuals of varying skill levels. These singular notes are then orchestrated into a permanent professional work of art which captures the energy and vision of the community of participants." Recent
